As the new Senior Army Instructor (SAI), LTC (R) Gaddy, Bradford, of the JROTC program, I am always inspired when young men and women choose to take the oath of enlistment and join the ranks of the U.S. military. Over my two years with the West Johnston High School Wildcat Battalion, 10 cadets have made this commitment, each demonstrating dedication and courage.
The most recent enlistment, on March 25, 2025, was particularly meaningful, as it marked my first time administering the oath as a JROTC instructor. Cadet Major (C/MAJ) Yadira Orellana-Gallardo, a senior and LET 4, has chosen to serve in the North Carolina Army National Guard. This summer, she will begin her journey at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, for Army Basic Combat Training. Watching her growth as a leader—rising to the role of battalion executive officer and setting a high standard for her fellow cadets—has been an honor. Now, I look forward to witnessing her continued success in the military, just as I did throughout her time in JROTC.
My Army Instructor counterpart, 1SG William Ramos, and I take great pride in seeing the transformation of cadets who commit themselves to excellence. JROTC instructors play a crucial role in bridging the gap between past, present, and future service members, as well as strengthening relationships with school administrators who support our mission. Whether welcoming veterans to our schools, collaborating with local VFWs, or rendering daily honors to the nation’s flag, our impact extends far beyond the classroom.
Serving as a JROTC instructor is a second opportunity to serve our nation, and we must do so with honor and dedication. Thank you, C/MAJ Yadira Orellana-Gallardo, for allowing me the privilege of sharing in this important milestone. I have no doubt that your future in service will be just as distinguished as your time in JROTC.
