📘 Program Overview

The DoD SkillBridge / Career Skills Program (CSP) internship helps transitioning service members bridge the gap between military service and civilian careers. During their final 180 days of active duty, participants gain hands-on experience through industry training, apprenticeships, or internships.

For those interested in becoming JROTC instructors, this program offers a unique opportunity to serve alongside current Army Instructors (AIs) and Senior Army Instructors (SAIs) in secondary schools across the Army JROTC Area of Operations. It’s an ideal path for senior enlisted and officers preparing to retire and enter the rewarding world of high school leadership education.

Eligibility Checklist

  • As of 11 Apr 2025 MILPER Number: 25-116 indicates the following
    • E6-E7, WO-CWO3, O1-O4 have a max participation time of 90 days
    • E8-E9, CWO4-CWO5, O5 and above have a max participation of 90 days
    • Must have command approval to participate
    • Must submit completed CSP application form
  • Must coordinate with host school and Cadet Command

  • Certification includes transcript review, DA-style photo, and background checks.

Background Checks (T1WC)

  • All instructors must complete Tier 1 with Childcare (T1WC) investigation.
  • Do not submit forms until directed by the Background Check Administrator.

Pay & Compensation

  • Pay is based on military rank, education level, and school funding.
  • Schools may offer additional pay above the minimum instructor rate.
