Instructor Eligibility

Noncommissioned Officers, E-6 to E-9: Separated or retired within past 5 years with at least 8 years of cumulative honorable service.

Officers, W-1 to W-5, O-3 to O-6: Same requirement, 8+ years of honorable service, separated or retired within past 5 years.

ARNG/USAR, Actively Serving/TPU: Same eligibility plus Letter of Recommendation from current Commander and current DA Form 5016 or NGB 23A.

Pay & Compensation

Army JROTC cost-shares newly hired instructors under a 10-month, 300-day or 11-month, 330-day contract. Pay is based on the standardized JROTC Instructor Pay Scale, JSIPS.

Administrative Requirements

Access to these courses is granted once hired.

Co-Curricular Expectations

JROTC instructors regularly support Cadet activities outside classroom hours, typically exceeding 50 hours/week and weekends.

School Duties

Instructors may also perform school-assigned duties such as:

  • Hall monitor
  • Event chaperone/security
  • Test proctor
  • Cafeteria duty
  • Substitute teaching other classes
